The University of Winnipeg is pleased to announce the inaugural recipients of support from its new Experiential Learning Fund. Both faculty members and a number of UWinnipeg students have been awarded funding to support for-credit experiential learning opportunities (in alpha order):

- Shelby Bohn (Student – Biology; working with Craig Willis)
- Jim Clark (Psychology)
- Carlos Colorado (Religion and Culture)
- Nathan Hall (Kinesiology and Applied Health)
- Matthew Maher (Classics)
- Jeffrey Newmark (Religion and Culture)
- Mirjana Roksandic (Anthropology students) – Meg Antoine, Ania Dolin, Robin Henderson, Richard Klassen, Amarpreet Rehal and Anastasia Tanasichuk
- Shailesh Shukla (Indigenous Studies)
- Jim Silver (Urban & Inner City Studies)
“A significant amount of experiential learning is under way at UWinnipeg, as evidenced by the large number of applications we received,” said Jodene Baccus, Chair of the Experiential Learning Fund selection committee. “We look forward to the successful outcomes of these projects and sharing the results with the UWinnipeg community.”
Fund recipients will use the grants for a wide range of experiential learning projects, including:
- Attending summer field schools in Greece, Bordeaux, Kyoto, and Balanica
- Upgrading the online practicum system to provide more opportunities for athletic therapy students
- Gaining experience through local excursions to Fort Whyte and Sandilands Forest, and through working with inner-city community organizations
- Developing practicum opportunities for students in psychology
- Traveling to Ireland to conduct research for a stage script
- Creating new courses, such as a summer school on Field Ethnobotany
