WINNIPEG, MB – UWinnipeg’s Gallery 1C03, in partnership with The University of Winnipeg Students’ Association (UWSA), presents the documentary Blue Gold: World Water Worlds, September 22 at 7:00 pm in the University of Winnipeg’s Manitoba Board Room (2nd Floor, Manitoba Hall, Room 70) as a prelude to the UWSA’s “Water Week” program.
Social and Political Resonance
This is the first film in a series of six that will be presented by the newly established Cinema Politica at The University of Winnipeg. The organizations will work together to screen socially and politically resonant films over the course of the 2009/2010 academic season.
Blue Gold: World Water Worlds is directed by Sam Bozzo and narrated by Malcolm McDowell. Bozzo predicts that as the source of human survival enters the global marketplace and political arena, future wars will be fought over water just as they are fought over oil today. He urges us to think about the corporate giants, private investors and corrupt governments vying for control of our dwindling supply, and reports on protests, lawsuits and revolutions launched by citizens fighting for the right to survive. He reminds us that past civilizations have collapsed from poor water management and he asks: can the human race survive?

Informed Citizenry
Engaging with students in ways that encourage informed citizenry through creative and critical thinking is key to Gallery 1C03’s mandate. Gallery 1C03’s involvement with Cinema Politica will help the gallery continue to grow relationships with students, faculty and staff on campus as well as citizens of Winnipeg at large.
All screenings will be open to all audiences – everyone is welcome from across the campus and across the city. Screenings are free, but donations to offset costs are welcomed. The next film (TBA) is scheduled to screen on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 7:00 pm.
Gallery 1C03 and the UWSA wish to extend thanks to Cinema Politica for making it possible to participate in this network. They also express gratitude to the Canada Council for the Arts for generously supporting this initiative.
