First Nations Pavilion Brings National Flair to Campus

Pavilion shares national pride on UWinnipeg Campus

WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg is honoured to play host the First Nations Pavilion at this year’s Folklorama from Sunday August 3 to Saturday August 9, Riddell Hall, 515 Portage Avenue. This unique pavilion is a national affair that captures and shares the diversity of First Nations cultures from across Canada.

“The University of Winnipeg is an ideal place of learning,” said Tim Stevenson, Public Relations for the First Nations Pavilion. “Learning and sharing the variety of First Nation’s culture in Canada is our main objective for the pavilion.”

Highlights of the pavilion include culinary travels created by Red Seal Chef David Wolfman, who will change his menu daily. The performers list is jam-packed with talent from various nations peoples from across the country that covers the Atlantic to the Pacific featuring the Git Hayetsk Dancers as the headliners.

Chef David Wolfman is a descendant of the Xaxli”p Band in Lillooet, BC. Born in Toronto, ON, Wolfman honed his culinary skills through apprenticing in prestigious kitchens including The National Club, The Island Yacht Club and Garbo’s Restaurant.

Wolfman is host, writer, and executive producer of his much celebrated and nationally televised Cooking with the Wolfman™ show. Wolfman features high protein, low fat, nutritious cooking of traditional aboriginal foods “fused” with non-aboriginal foods.

Git Hayetsk in Sm’algyax (Tsimshian language) means “people of the copper shield”. This group is based in Vancouver, BC. Git Hayetsk represents various nations from the West Coast region– that include Tsimshian, Nisga’a, Gitxsan, Haida, Tlingit and Haisla.
