Free Friday yoga on campus

Sustainability of the mind, body, and soul

In partnership with the Campus Sustainability Office, and Winnipeg Yoga Shala, the University of Winnipeg Students’ Association (UWSA) will be providing free yoga in the Bulman Students’ Centre every Friday from January 14th to April 15th, from 12:30 to 1:30 ( excluding March 11th and January 28th, 2011).

Free yoga sessions proved to be a very popular service with students, often reaching capacity in the summer and fall. The Campus Sustainability Office and the students’ association decided to extend this valued service throughout the winter and spring since it promotes physical and mental wellness for students, staff, and community.

“Yoga is a relatively easy activity to participate in for students at varying levels of expertise and physical ability. Research shows that if one physically take cares themselves, they will be better mentally,” said Lana Hastings, UWSA Vice-President Student Services of the UWSA. “The pressure of school and exams can be mentally exhausting for students so it is important for them to remember to take care of themselves.“

“We all need to take some time to make our bodies and minds healthy. Otherwise, we don’t have the energy or the heart to turn our efforts towards making our communities healthy. This weekly class will be an opportunity for members of our University community to care for themselves,” said Alana Lajoie-O’Malley, Director of the Campus Sustainability Office and yoga instructor at Winnipeg Yoga Shala.

Students are encouraged to bring their own mat, or purchase one at Petrified bookstore.
