Get ready for Wesmen Classic 56

A volleyball player leaps to spike the ball.

Don’t miss the 56th edition of our city’s longest-running holiday sports tradition.

The Wesmen Classic will return to the Duckworth Centre December 28-30. This year’s showdown features men’s volleyball.

Eight teams from around Canada — representing all three U Sports conferences — will be in attendance, once again making the Classic a truly nationwide affair. This year, the tournament will be an East-West showdown with four teams from Canada West and a combined four teams from Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ).

In addition to three Manitoba teams — University of Winnipeg, University of Brandon, and University of Manitoba — the UBC-Okanagan Heat will make the trip from Kelowna, BC, to round out the West Pool. In the East Pool, the Guelph Gryphons of the OUA are joined by the Laval Rouge et Or, University of New Brunswick Reds, and Dalhousie Tigers of the RSEQ.

You can view the tournament schedule and purchase tickets on the Wesmen website. UWinnipeg students, as with all Wesmen events at the Duckworth Centre, can attend for free.

The Wesmen, winners of two of their last three Canada West conference matches, enter the tournament ranked No. 5 in the latest U Sports poll released December 5.
