WINNIPEG, MB – Don’t miss HAIR, The Rock Musical during The University of Winnipeg’s Homecoming Event Sept. 13-16, 2007. There will be two more performances of the critically acclaimed production in case you missed the sell out shows during the Fringe Festival.
HAIR – a UWinnipeg Theatre Program production that sold out several of its 10 shows at the 2007 Fringe Festival – runs Fri. Sept. 14 at 8:00 pm and Sat. Sept. 15 at 2:00 pm at the Prairie Theatre Exchange. Tickets are only $15 and are available by visiting http://40th.uwinnipeg.ca.
“This is not your typical musical,” said Doug Arrell, Chair of Theatre and Film at UWinnipeg. “HAIR is a slice of the ‘60s and the issues still resonate with audiences today. Fringe audiences loved it. The energy the students create, combined with the music and the costumes, results in a natural high.”
UWinnipeg Theatre Program Director Kayla Gordon assembled a cast of 16 fabulously talented individuals to create HAIR, the Rock Musical for the Fringe Festival stage. This musical was part of the advanced Musical Theatre Fringe Course offered at the university and the performances served as a final exam.
HAIR, which originally premiered on Broadway Oct, 17, 1967, braids the tale of a cross-section of young people in New York City’s East Village who form a unique tribe that seeks to change the world. Brotherly love, sex, drugs and nudity all play a role in this infamous musical. Familiar hits from HAIR include “Aquarius”, “Let the Sun Shine In” and “Good Morning Starshine” to name only a few.
The play is choreographed by Sofia Costantini and Brenda Gorlick; the musical director is Celoris Miller; the assistant musical director is Joseph Tritt; and the musicians are Ariel Posen, Jordan Hamilton and Michael Park.
