This week, the longstanding rivalry between the University of Winnipeg Wesmen and the University of Manitoba Bisons is at its peak, as the teams battle for citywide bragging rights at the annual Duckworth Challenge.
But amidst the rivalry, the teams are coming together this year to support the community of Berens River following the devastating fire that destroyed its school earlier this week.
The teams are setting up donation bins at Duckworth Challenge games this Friday and Saturday. Fans and community members are encouraged to contribute new school supplies to assist children and families in Berens River as local leaders work to establish temporary learning spaces.
Attendees are encouraged to donate new items to help students throughout the rest of the school year. These could include pens and pencils, backpacks, shoes, scissors, and other school supplies.
Thank you for helping support this community during this challenging time!
