At a media scrum upon his return from the Organization of American States electoral mission in Peru, President Lloyd Axworthy thanked the intrepid University of Winnipeg observers and called the April 9, 2006 election a success.
“I came away with a sense of the enormous commitment of the Peruvian people to make democracy work,” said Axworthy. “Their participation in this fair and democratic election was a way of saying, ‘I vote for my country.’”
