WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg’s Innovative Learning Centre (ILC), its inspiring education programs and coordinator Kevin Chief are featured on the cover of University Affairs Magazine’s March 2008 edition.
The six-page cover article highlights the mission, work and achievements of the ILC. The centre is part of an initiative to reach elementary, secondary and postsecondary Aboriginal and inner city students and encourage and support them so that they stay in school and receive an education, including a university degree.
The centre offers after-school, weekend and summer camp activities – such as the Eco-Kids and Enviro Techs programs – that keep students interested in learning and motivated to stay in school. UWinnipeg and the ILC recognize that education is the key to the future and is actively working to keep Aboriginal students in school at all levels, across the city and within the province.
ILC is a practical working example of The University of Winnipeg’s active role in its pursuit of improving Aboriginal Education and community participation and involvement. Other initiatives in the last six months include the National Aboriginal University Education Roundtable and the Aboriginal Governance & Globalization Symposium.
