WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg is honoured to accept a $250,000 gift from the Certified Management Accountants of Manitoba which will help construct a new facility for the Faculty of Business and Economics at 460 Portage Avenue and will support annual scholarships for outstanding students enrolled in Accounting

“CMA Manitoba is dedicated to business excellence, as we are, and this donation means our students can look forward to first-class learning environment rich with possibilities and community support,” said UWinnipeg President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Lloyd Axworthy. “Business and Economics is one of our fastest growing departments as young people recognize the value of a strong business and accounting foundation, combined with a liberal arts education. Today, CMA is investing in our future leaders.”

CMA will provide $240,000 for capital costs to construct a new faculty at 460 Portage Avenue and $10,000 for scholarships to support outstanding students with a concentration in Accounting.

“We are proud of our on-going partnership with the University of Winnipeg,” said Chris Dumontier, CMA, President of CMA Manitoba. “This project is a perfect demonstration of finding a creative solution that will not only serve the future needs of Business and Economics students, but all University students interested in a designation that will enhance their ability to become strategic leaders within their respective fields.”

“CMA Manitoba has shown tremendous leadership and foresight by investing in a program that is getting off the ground,” said Michael Benarroch, Dean of the Faculty of Business & Economics at UWinnipeg. “It is great to see a successful organization contributing significantly to the success of our students and our program.”

The newly created Faculty of Business and Economics offers students a diverse array of academic programs, including accounting, human resources management, marketing, international business and finance. The completion of the University of Winnipeg’s 460 Portage Project will provide the Faculty of Business and Economics a new home at one of the highest profile corners in Winnipeg – Portage Avenue and Memorial Boulevard.
