The University of Winnipeg Foundation is pleased to announce that Javier Schwersensky has been appointed to the role of President and CEO. Beginning October 19, 2020, he will assume responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Foundation’s operations.
Schwersensky is a skilled leader with 17 years of experience in the non-profit sector. He has been Chief Executive Officer at the Winnipeg Humane Society (WHS) since 2015, during which time he grew operations by 26 per cent, more than doubled the WHS Foundation’s endowment fund to $7.5M, and developed new partnerships with over 20 organizations. Previously, he was the Deputy Executive Director at the Manitoba Museum, where he was instrumental in creating an integrated organizational strategy and in the museum’s business planning.
I look forward to supporting the mission and legacy of excellence at The University of Winnipeg.
Schwersensky holds a Bachelor in Communications (Magna cum Laude) from the University of Buenos Aires, as well as a Masters in Corporate Communications (Honours) from the University of Social and Management Sciences in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are excited to welcome Javier to the UWinnipeg family as President and CEO of the Foundation. He has a demonstrated ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with a wide variety of people and I know that our generous donors will enjoy working with him. He will be a tremendous asset to the Foundation,” said H. Sanford Riley, Chair of the UWinnipeg Foundation Board of Directors.
“I am thrilled and humbled to take on this role and begin working with the board and the strong team of staff at the UWinnipeg Foundation,” said Schwersensky. “I am excited to meet with donors and alumni, and I look forward to supporting the mission and legacy of excellence at The University of Winnipeg.”
Created in 2002, The University of Winnipeg Foundation is a registered and incorporated charitable public foundation dedicated to fundraising and asset stewardship in support of the University’s mission and vision. The Foundation board oversees the growth of a $70M endowment, which supports scholarships and bursaries at UWinnipeg.
The Foundation’s board extends gratitude to Teresa Murray for acting in the role of President and CEO, while the search for a new executive leader was carried out.
