Ken McCluskey Wins Two International Education Awards

WINNIPEG, MB – Ken McCluskey has always sought different ways to help youth learn. Now two international education groups have recognized the achievements of The University of Winnipeg’s Dean of Education in this area with prestigious awards.

Recognized for Leadership
The International Centre for Innovation in Education (ICIE) presented McCluskey with its inaugural ICIE Creativity Award at an August ceremony in Ulm, Germany. Presented to McCluskey by Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan of Jordan, the award recognized McCluskey for his leadership, his development of international projects and his outstanding contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the field of giftedness and talent development.

The World Council for Gifted and Talented Children gave McCluskey its International Creativity Award at its biennial conference, held in August in Vancouver. That award also recognized McCluskey’s leadership and his commitment to reaching and empowering gifted and talented children.

Dedication
These awards symbolize what Ken does every day at the University, and that is his constant dedication to improving the learning experience for all students,” said Brian Stevenson, UWinnipeg Provost & Vice-President Academic. “The University is very proud of his achievements.”

McCluskey – who is known internationally for his work in gifted education, mentoring, ADHD, and at-risk children and youth – has presented at more than 125 conferences, has published more than 100 articles / chapters and has written 15 books. He acknowledged the work of his colleagues when speaking about the two honors.

Whenever you receive recognition of this type, it appears as if you are doing this all by yourself and of course that’s not the case,” McCluskey said. “I’m really getting credit for the work of many of our faculty and staff in Education at The University of Winnipeg. I’m pleased to accept these honors on their behalf.”
