Larry McKay named National Team coach

Wesmen head man to lead Canada's University Games Team

WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg, in conjunction with Team Canada Volleyball, is pleased to announce that Larry McKay has been named the head coach of the Canadian Men’s National Volleyball Team that will represent Canada at the World University Games August 12-23 in Shenzen, China.

The team will hold their selection camp in Gatineau, Quebec from May 7-13 and will soon after begin their training and preparations for the summer immediately upon the selection of the team.

McKay – the present head coach of the University of Winnipeg’s Men’s Volleyball program for the past 22 years – was the head coach of Canada’s National “B” squad last year and was part of the National A team’s staff in preparation for the 2010 World Championships.

He has coached the Wesmen to seven National Championship medals and was named the CIS Coach of the Year on two occasions: 1992-93 and 2001-02. In 2003, he was Team Canada’s head coach at the Men’s Under 21 World Championships.

“I am grateful to The University of Winnipeg for allowing me to take on this responsibility,” McKay said. “As this team will represent Canada and all Canadian post-secondary institutions, I will be pleased to represent our university at these World University Games.”
