Lecture on identity in 19th-Century Russian Ukraine

The University of Winnipeg History Department presents the lecture Writing their Region: Orthodox Priests, Ethnography, and Identity in Nineteenth-Century Russian Ukraine given by Dr. Heather Coleman,  (University of Alberta), on Thursday, March 16 at 7:00 pm, Bryce Hall, Room 2B23. The lecture is free and open to the public. 

Coleman is Associate Professor with the Department of History and Classics, University of Alberta; and Director of the Research Program on Religion and Culture at the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies. She wrote Russian Baptists and Spiritual Revolution, 1905-1929 (Indiana University Press, 2005), edited Orthodox Christianity in Imperial Russia: A Source Book on Lived Religion (Indiana University Press, 2014), and co-edited with Mark D. Steinberg Sacred Stories: Religion and Spirituality in Modern Russia (Indiana University Press, 2007). Her current project is “Holy Kiev: Priests, Communities, and Nationality in Imperial Russia.” She also serves as the editor of Canadian Slavonic Papers.
