The University of Winnipeg has appointed Dr. Manish Pandey to the role of Acting Associate Vice-President, International for a one-year term beginning on April 1, 2021. This new position will lead UWinnipeg’s international strategy while supporting international relations, recruitment, and retention priorities.
In his new role, Dr. Pandey will also enhance international opportunities for students and faculty; develop international agreements; and engage with faculty and staff to support international experiences for students.
“Dr. Pandey is a respected academic, strategic thinker, and innovative leader with extensive research expertise and professional experience in global contexts. He will strengthen the University of Winnipeg’s senior administrative team and play a pivotal role in the continued growth of our international outreach and engagement,” said Dr. Jan Stewart, Interim Provost and Vice-President, Academic.

A professor in the Department of Economics, Dr, Pandey came to the University of Winnipeg in 2004. During his time at UWinnipeg, he has held several senior administrative roles, including Acting Dean of Graduate Studies; Acting Vice-President, Research and Innovation; and Chair, Department of Economics. His research has addressed issues related to the reasons for differences in productivity across countries; the impact of trade openness on labour productivity, government size and corruption; the performance of immigrants in the Canadian labour market; and the public cost of mortgage interest deductibility for the US; among others. He obtained a Master in Economics from Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi in 1999, and a PhD in Economics from the University of Western Ontario in 2005.
