My Cultural Divide Screens On UWinnipeg Campus

WINNIPEG, MB – UWinnipeg’s Gallery 1C03, in partnership with The University of Winnipeg Students’ Association (UWSA), presents the documentary My Cultural Divide on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 7:00 pm, Manitoba Boardroom (2nd Floor, Manitoba Hall, Room 70 – 2M70).

This is the second film in a series of six that will be presented by the newly established Cinema Politica at The University of Winnipeg. The organizations will work together to screen socially and politically resonant films over the course of the 2009/2010 academic season.

Personal Journey
My Cultural Divide (Canada, 2006), directed by Faisal Lutchmedial questions the logic of hardcore political activism. He connects his politics with his humanity, and weaves together a story that is thought provoking and touching. Accompanied by his ailing mother, Lutchmedial takes us on a very personal journey to bridge the gap between his heritage in Bangladesh and his life in Canada.

Informed Citizenry
Engaging with students in ways that encourage informed citizenry through creative and critical thinking is key to Gallery 1C03’s mandate. Gallery 1C03’s involvement with Cinema Politica will help the gallery continue to grow relationships with students, faculty and staff on campus as well as citizens of Winnipeg at large.

All screenings are open to the public. Screenings are free, but donations to offset costs are welcomed. The next film (TBA) is scheduled to screen on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at 7:00 pm.

Gallery 1C03 and the UWSA wish to extend thanks to Cinema Politica for making it possible to participate in this network. They also express gratitude to the Canada Council for the Arts for generously supporting this initiative.
