WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg will present a new award at the 2013 Spring Convocation. The Stars of Spence Street Prize has been created to recognize UWinnipeg employees with a long history of dedicated service, a passion for student learning, and a demonstrated commitment to supporting students in achieving their educational goals. The late Judy Dyck, former UWinnipeg Director of the Awards and Financial Aid Office, is the inaugural recipient.
“We are pleased to honour those in the UWinnipeg community whose commitment to students truly goes above and beyond the call of duty,” said Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, UWinnipeg President and Vice-Chancellor. “Judy was a passionate student advocate who has left a long lasting legacy on our campus.”
Dyck’s service to The University of Winnipeg spanned more than 30 years. She served in many roles, most notably as Director of the Awards and Financial Aid Office. She was renowned for her leadership and active engagement with students, as well as for her breadth of knowledge and expertise on student financial matters. Through her work and guidance, Dyck helped thousands of students. She provided sage advice and genuine caring to students in their times of need. She served her alma mater with distinction until health matters led to an early retirement in March 2011.
