WINNIPEG, MB – Aisha Khizar never thought she’d be heading off to The University of Winnipeg with her first year of tuition, books and fees all paid for, a gift valued up to $5,000. Now the 18 year old, who works part-time at Tim Horton’s, will be able to focus on her dream of studying chemistry, joining her two older sisters who also attend UWinnipeg. Khazir and her family moved to Winnipeg from Pakistan 4 years ago.

“I was so excited I could not believe it,” said Khizar when the University called to tell her she had won the free tuition draw. “The first person I told was my dad. He is so happy. I’ve heard lots of good things about The University of Winnipeg from my sisters, about the small class sizes and how they get lots of help from their professors. I am so excited to attend.”

Khizir is one of 1,200 high-school students who put their names into the draw during a UWinnipeg recruitment visit to her class at Nelson McIntyre Collegiate last November. The draw took place April 30, using an online random number generator which matches up with the numbers assigned to the entrants in the database.
