For the entire month of August, Yoga Public is donating proceeds from its Karma Yoga classes to UWinnipeg’s Inner- City Junior Wesmen Girl’s Basketball program.

YogaPublicOn Friday, August 9th at 3:00 pm, former Winnipeg Blue Bomber-turned-restaurant owner Obby Khan joined the team’s coach Bob Axworthy and other special guests, to participate in raising funds for the team by hitting the mat at Yoga Public, 280 Fort Street.

Khan is also starting a youth employment opportunity by hiring some members of the Inner-City Junior Wesmen to work at his popular restaurant Shawarma Khan in the Exchange District.

“I like giving back to a city that’s been so great to me, and this is a perfect opportunity to give some inner-city girls a better chance at success,” said Khan.

Up to 50 girls aged 12 to 18 play basketball in the program. Funds raised will support scholarships, provide travel assistance to tournaments and support purchase of uniforms and equipment.

“Sometimes it’s the little things that make a big difference in someone’s life, and at the end of the day that’s what it’s really all about,” said coach Axworthy.  “I’m happy for the girls, I’m happy for Obby, and I’m a little intimidated about this yoga I have agreed to do!”
