PACE’s 37th graduation celebration

The University of Winnipeg’s Professional, Applied and Continuing Education (PACE) program recently celebrated its largest convocation ever, with over 400 graduates crossing the stage. Representing a graduating cohort of 637 students from 52 different countries, the event highlighted the dedication, resilience, and diversity that define this milestone.

Kim Loeb, PACE Executive Director, kicked off the ceremony with a heartfelt message of pride and encouragement.

“You are now part of a growing community of PACE alumni from 52 countries across the globe. Many of you have already made Manitoba your home, contributing to its cultural and economic fabric,” she said. She highlighted that 92 per cent of PACE graduates find jobs soon after finishing their programs, with 82.5 per cent choosing to stay in Manitoba to continue their careers. “Your journey has only just begun, and we are so proud to have been a part of it,” she added.

Valedictorian Rita Onome Eghujovbo, a Human Resources graduate, gave an emotional speech reflecting on the strong bonds formed among classmates.

“We did it! We didn’t just earn diplomas; we gained a family,” she said. Rita also spoke about balancing a demanding curriculum with their personal lives. “Every sleepless night, every hurdle we faced, brought us here today, and together we made it through,” she said.

Another inspiring moment came from Teslim Akindele, a PACE alum and instructor, who shared his journey from Nigeria to Winnipeg. He said life is a book where each chapter is an opportunity for growth. “You’ve written this chapter by graduating today, but the next one is up to you. Don’t forget to ask for help from the contributors in your life—friends, family, mentors—because no one’s book is written alone.”

The event was a reflection of the close-knit community that PACE fosters. Kim acknowledged this, stating, “Together, we’ve created a wonderful global community, and I hope you’ll stay connected with us as you embark on your new journeys. Whether you return as mentors, guest speakers, or employers of future graduates, you’ll always be part of the PACE family.”

The Class of 2024 leaves behind a legacy of excellence and camaraderie, with many graduates already making their mark in Manitoba’s workforce. As the ceremony closed, there was a shared sense of pride—not only in the achievements of the graduates but also in the friendships and memories created along the way. As Kim said in her closing remarks, “Your new journey has just begun, but remember, you’re ready for anything.”
