Professors with a Passion: Tour of Gabrielle Roy House

Gabrielle Roy was one of Canada’s most influential 20th century authors, a Manitoban, and a champion of the marginalized and the underprivileged.

Dr. Carol Harvey, Professor of French Studies at The University of Winnipeg, will host a public tour of Gabrielle Roy’s home, 375 Deschambault Street, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2005. Following the tour of the home will be a walking tour of sites related to Roy’s experiences in St. Boniface. The event is part of The University of Winnipeg Alumni Association’s Professors with a Passion series.

The house, now a museum open to the public, has been restored to its original state.  Roy lived there from birth to her departure for Europe in 1937. St. Boniface was the setting for some of her stories, including Street of Riches. Her best-known novel is The Tin Flute, an account of working-class Montreal.

Tickets for this very popular house and walking tour, including refreshments, are $10.00 per person. They are available by contacting The University of Winnipeg Alumni Office at 786-9711 or alumni@uwinnipeg.ca
