Public Service Announcement – Axworthy introduces Atwood

WINNIPEG, MB – Please run the following public service announcement until October 17, 2008:

Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, President and Vice-Chancellor, The University of Winnipeg, is honoured to introduce the 2008 CBC Massey Lecture featuring acclaimed writer Margaret Atwood, who will be speaking on the theme Debt as Plot – Payback. He will be joined in his introduction by award-winning Winnipeg writer and playwright, Margaret Sweatman.

The lecture takes place in Winnipeg on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 8 pm at Pantages Playhouse Theatre.

The Massey Lectures are named in honour of the late Governor General of Canada, Vincent Massey. CBC Radio has commissioned the lectures annually since 1961.

Margaret Atwood is one of the world’s pre-eminent writers, winner of the Booker Prize, the Scotiabank Giller Prize and the Governor General’s Literary Awards, among many other honours. She is the bestselling author of more than 35 books of poetry, fiction and non-fiction. She is an International Vice President of PEN, which assists writers around the world in the peaceful expression of their ideas. Most recently, she is the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Prince of Asturias Award for Letters.

The book of the 2008 Massey lectures, Payback: Debt and the Shadow Side of Wealth, is published by House of Anansi Press.
