Renowned artist Rodney LaTourelle officially opened his installation Chronochroma 6 in the Centennial-Duckworth Corridor on Monday, November 8, adding a dash of colour to campus. Number TEN Architectural Group is the title sponsor for this installation.

Rodney LaTourelle is a Winnipeg-born artist currently living and practicing in Berlin. His work has been exhibited in Russia, Germany, Poland, at the National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa), and L’Université du Québec Montréal (Montreal).

In 2008 LaTourelle was invited to help transform the Centennial-Duckworth Corridor on the 3rd floor, Centennial Hall into a more inviting space. LaTourelle is known for his immersive polychrome art environments, and he decided to enliven the hallway with a wide range of contemporary colours. Rather than simply add art to the passageway, LaTourelle transformed the hall itself into a work of art. The colours highlight rather than hide the structural trusses of the architecture, referencing the original design conception for Centennial Hall when it opened in 1972.

Latourelle is interested in exploring the potential mood altering effects of colour. Walking through this corridor, the strong hues play with the passing of time, and the passing of colour as the title alludes. There is also a dynamic optical illusion, as the trusses seem to expand and shrink.
