Renowned philosopher Charles Taylor on Campus

WINNIPEG, MB РGlobally renowned Canadian philosopher Charles Taylor will deliver a lecture on Solidarity and Diversity in a Secular Age: Managing Belief and Unbelief in the Public Square, based on his 2007 magnum opus, A Secular Age on Wednesday October 19, 2011 at 7:30pm at Eckhardt-Grammat̩ Hall. Everyone is welcome and admission is free.

Highly respected sociologist of religion Robert Bellah called *A Secular Age * one of the most important books to be written in his lifetime.

Dr. Charles Taylor is Professor Emeritus of Political Science and Philosophy at McGill University. He was the co-chair of the Taylor-Bouchard Commission on Reasonable Accommodation in Quebec.. Taylor was the recipient of the 2008 Kyoto Prize in arts and philosophy and the 2007 Templeton Prize for progress towards research or discoveries about spiritual realities, which included a cash award of US$1.5 million.

The event is sponsored by The Knowles-Woodsworth Centre for Theology and Public Policy; The Mouseland Press Speaker Series; The Uniter; and the University of Winnipeg Department of Politics.

Dr. Taylor was originally scheduled to speak at the UWinnipeg in October 2010, but the event had to be rescheduled.
