The Faculty of Business and Economics at The University of Winnipeg integrates teaching, research and practice, in a curriculum that encourages students to take a multi-disciplinary approach to learning. Our graduates understand the big picture and how business impacts every area of the world and life. We have created an environment where smaller classes allow students to interact and get to know their profs.
Dr. Satyendra Singh – understanding emerging markets
A Professor of Marketing and International Business, Dr. Singh regularly travels to Ghana, Kenya, Cambodia and India to offer knowledge and support to industrial managers and students. He finds it invaluable to bring these experiences back to the UWinnipeg classroom, where he shares the real life examples and challenges faced by people in emerging markets with his business students. “My main focus is to teach why some countries are poor and develop business strategies out of poverty.” Dr. Singh feels UWinnipeg students receive invaluable exposure to both the arts and sciences that gives them an edge. He is the conference chair for the Academy of Business and Emerging Markets Conference which will be held in Cambodia next year, bringing 30 professors together to share peer-reviewed research. Dean Dias – UWinnipeg grad takes on international role
Dean graduated from UWinnipeg with a Bachelor in Business Administration just a few years after moving here from Mumbai, India. He started out in computer science and took an elective in marketing where he discovered his true passion. Today he is a Director with the Canadian International Grains Institute, building relationships with people from around the globe to ensure Canadian wheat gets to market. “People may not realize that when it comes to agriculture, Winnipeg is the hub. We are feeding the world,” says Dean, who credits UWinnipeg with fostering teamwork, an essential skill in business. “My classes at UWinnipeg were very interactive and project-based with simulations. You realize that not everyone thinks the same, and that is critical to understanding how to work with others. I learnt a lot of people management skills at UWinnipeg.”
