Student Film Festival Shows Off Talent And Innovation

UWinnipeg’s 7th Annual Student Film Festival runs April 22-24

WINNIPEG, MB – Manitoba’s college and university student filmmakers will strut their stuff at The University of Winnipeg’s 7th Annual Student Film Festival, sponsored by UWinnipeg’s Department of Theatre and Film.

This highly successful film festival features screenings of post-secondary student films; the premiere of the new UWinnipeg senior class project called Comes Love; a presentation and Q & A session with well-known and award-winning Winnipeg filmmaker Gary Yates; and the chance to see, for the first time, exciting works by hot new filmmakers. Admission is free and all events are open to the public.

This year we will screen more than 30 student-made films from throughout Manitoba, selected from a record-breaking field of 92 entries. They will compete for cash awards in the categories of Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Documentary, Best Editing, Best Screenplay, Best Sound and Best Film. The Awards Jury will be comprised of local professionals, and audience members will have their say as they vote for Audience Favourite.

Wednesday, April 22, 2009 and Thursday, April 23, 2009
7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Gala Evening:

Friday, April 24, 2009
beginning at 7:00 p.m.

  • Premiere of Comes Love, a half-hour drama written and produced by senior UWinnipeg filmmaking students
  • Special guest, filmmaker Gary Yates will discuss his work, show clips, and host a Q & A session
  • Awards Presentation and Screening of the Festival’s award-winning films
  • Closing reception

All events will take place at The University of Winnipeg in Eckhardt-Gramatt Hall (3rd Floor, Centennial Hall), 515 Portage Avenue.
