Terry Zdan appointed to active transportation group

CST Research Director one of 11 picked by Minister Jim Rondeau

WINNIPEG, MB – Government of Manitoba Science, Technology, Energy and Mines Minister Jim Rondeau appointed Centre for Sustainable Transportation research director Terry Zdan and 10 other people to the new Active Transportation Advisory Group, which will make recommendations for improving Manitoba’s active transportation policy and infrastructure.

Appointed to the board with Zdan are Janice Lukes (chair), Anders Swanson, Russell Wychreschuk, Tim Deacon, Marcela Rivera, Mark Cohoe, Pat Locken, Gary Ewen, Murray Haukaas and Steve Paulson.

“Having a strong active transportation policy improves our environment, complements our transportation systems, provides better recreation opportunities and enhances our personal and public health,” said Rondeau.

“Development of active transportation networks is an investment in the quality of life in the province and not a cost,” said Zdan. “I look forward to working with this advisory committee and providing the Minister with sound advice and recommendations.”

Rondeau noted the group will look at provincial bicycle policy, development of multi-user recreational trails and ways to incorporate both recreational and commuter trails into an overall network. It will also make recommendations on improved signage, bicycle safety, cycling tourism and assess to the economic benefits of active transportation infrastructure.
