Thanks to the generosity of The Winnipeg Foundation, three $17,500 entrance scholarships will soon be available for incoming students.
“This wonderful initiative from The Winnipeg Foundation reflects the depth of expertise in Canadian and Indigenous history in the two history departments, and provides nationally competitive financial support for graduate student historical research,” said James Hanley, University of Winnipeg history professor and department chair.
Students will automatically be considered for this award when applying to the first year of the UWinnipeg and University of Manitoba Joint Master of Arts in History.
The Winnipeg Foundation Fellowship for Master Studies in Canadian History is meant to help further our understanding of Canadian and Indigenous history. The scholarships are available for incoming students pursuing a master’s degree in Canadian and Indigenous History, beginning in fall 2019.
All students who have met the criteria for the fellowship, applied to the Joint MA (History), and are admitted to the program automatically will be considered for The Winnipeg Foundation Fellowship for Master Studies in Canadian History.
The joint master’s program prepares students to undertake independent research and place their findings within their historical context, and ensures they acquire a comprehensive knowledge of at least two areas of historical study. Graduates are prepared to enter PhD programs, put their knowledge to work as teachers or professional researchers, or to find employment in government, law, journalism, museums, libraries, and archives.
