WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg will be well represented at a national conference in the city later this month by UWinnipeg professors Jock Lehr, Alexander Freund and Paul Bramadat. The three professors are executive members of the Canadian Ethnic Studies Association – a group that is holding its 19th Biennial Conference in Winnipeg at the Hotel Fort Garry, Sept. 27-30.
The theme of the conference is “Ethnicity, Civil Society & Public Policy: Engaging Cultures in a Globalizing World” and the event will feature several international speakers who are experts on ethnic inclusion in their respective nations. The speakers will offer perspectives on minority inclusion in civil governance and will consider alternative models used to achieve this goal.
The UWinnipeg professors have spent the past two years planning the conference. The group hopes participants will learn much from the wide variety of topics offered at the event.
“Our partnership with the Canadian International Development Agency will give us a rare opportunity to place Canadian multicultural policy in a global context,” said Lehr, a Professor of Geography at UWinnipeg.
The conference begins Sept. 27 with a field trip to the James Valley Hutterite Colony. On Sept. 28 & 29, the event features plenary sessions in the morning and paper sessions throughout the remainder of the day.
The conference is open to the public, not just CESA members. To register for the conference or to learn more about the CESA, please visit, http://cesa.uwinnipeg.ca.
