UWinnipeg’s Master of Marriage and Family Therapy Program (MMFT) celebrates a significant achievement this season. The program has earned a highly-regarded credential by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE). It is now only one of two programs in Canada to receive the recognition. This accreditation gives UWinnipeg’s MMFT program a competitive edge and confirms UWinnipeg’s commitment to educational quality.
“We have been working through the accreditation application process since 2015 and we are very excited to have met the outcome-based COAMFTE standards,” shared Dr. Narumi Taniguchi, Director, MMFT Program. “We improved our data collection, and developed new materials and documentation to increase the program’s transparency. We are very proud of our program and everyone who collaborated to make this happen.”
The intense application process involved a site visit where COAMFTE interviewed students, graduates, supervisors, faculty and Deans.
MMFT had an event on Thursday, December 14, 2017 t to celebrate this accomplishment.
The Master of Marriage and Family Therapy Program is part of the Faculty of Education and has over 100 students, a quarter of the UWinnipeg graduate student population. As part of their training, students provide 500 hours of face-to-face therapy under supervision, most of which are conducted at Aurora Family Therapy Centre. The MMFT program has an employment rate of over 90% post-graduation.
The Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE)
COAMFTE’s mission is to promote best practices for Marriage and Family Therapy educational programs through the establishment, review and revision of accreditation standards and policies, and the accreditation of graduate and post-graduate educational programs.
