Today The University of Winnipeg joined more than 80 local organizations, businesses, groups, and individuals in becoming a signatory to the City of Winnipeg’s Indigenous Accord, an initiative spearheaded by Mayor Brian Bowman. The Accord is a commitment to the ongoing journey of reconciliation in Winnipeg, inspired by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
Dr. Annette Trimbee, UWinnipeg President and Vice-Chancellor, attended the ceremony at the Forks and signed the Accord on behalf of the UWinnipeg community.
According to the city, “as a living document, the Accord is not a single-time event, but an ongoing responsibility accepted by signatories, who through becoming partners to the Accord agree to report the success of their commitment to reconciliation and their future goals on an annual basis”.
