WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg celebrates the accomplishments of distinguished UWinnipeg alumnus Dr. Arthur Kazumi Miki, CM, OM, who will be awarded the 2014 Award for Lifetime Achievement by the Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF) in Richmond, B.C. on Sunday March 2, 2014.
Miki was awarded an Honourary Doctorate from UWinnipeg in 1999. He currently serves on UWinnipeg’s Global College advisory board and is a lecturer in the Faculty of Education. Over the years, Miki has worked extensively as an educator, politician and community activist.
Miki is also nationally renowned for his integral role in achieving a just redress settlement for Japanese Canadians interned during the Second World War and the community at large, leading to the Japanese Canadian Redress Agreement signed on September 22, 1988.
“Dr. Miki is a frequent guest professor in our human rights courses at Global College,” said Marilou McPhedran, Acting Executive Director, Global College. “He always gets top marks from our students for sharing his compelling knowledge of racism in Canada that most students never knew had happened!”
