The University of Winnipeg is pleased to announce the first round of recipients to benefit from an $825,000 grant provided through the Canadian Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Scholarships Program. The scholarships contribute to the development of dynamic young leaders who are working toward change both at home and across the Commonwealth, while aiming to enrich students’ academic experiences and to facilitate personal and professional growth by offering them opportunities to collaborate and deepen peer relationships with other Queen Elizabeth scholars, both locally and nationally.
The program has multiple components, including scholarships valued from $25,000 to $30,000 for students from Commonwealth countries who are pursuing graduate studies at UWinnipeg. There also are awards of $6,000 for UWinnipeg students for research, scholarships or internships in other Commonwealth countries, which cover a 3 to 6 month period.
“We are proud to present the first round of students selected to be QES scholars at The University of Winnipeg,” says Dr. Mavis Reimer, UWinnipeg’s Dean of Graduate Studies. “Our scholars include incoming students from a wide range of Commonwealth countries including Kenya, Nigeria and Bangladesh. Our outgoing scholars, both from the Indigenous Governance program, are researching food security in the Dominica and Nigeria. The Faculty of Graduate Studies is delighted to have the opportunity to offer funding to these students to support their scholarly work and to develop partnerships with Commonwealth countries and institutions around the globe.”
