WINNIPEG, MB –The University of Winnipeg has earned the 2012 Winnipeg Accessibility Award for building design of its Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex. The award, presented by the City of Winnipeg, recognizes the importance of accessibility and universal design.
“The University of Winnipeg continues to seek the best in building design — with a special emphasis on accessibility and environmental sustainability,” explained Sherman Kreiner, UWinnipeg Vice President Student Life and Managing Director, UWinnipeg Community Renewal Corporation (UWCRC). “We strive for accessibility for all communities, including many who are traditionally under-represented on university campuses. Our commitment to students with disabilities includes a broad range of accommodation services — note taking, tutoring, proctoring, transcribing and ASL interpretive services — to more than 500 students. We also try to make our physical facilities as accessible as possible.”
