WINNIPEG, MB – With an enhanced downtown campus, and innovative new degree programs, The University of Winnipeg is attracting and retaining more students with a 2.8% overall increase in enrolment for this academic year.

“Our students consistently tell us, through the Maclean’s survey and Globe and Mail annual report, that they value the small class sizes and personal connection with their professors that The University of Winnipeg offers,” said Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, President and Vice-Chancellor. “We are working hard to build on that reputation for academic excellence by continuing to add relevant new degrees, such as a Bachelor program in Human Rights and Global Studies, Bachelor degrees in Disability Studies, and a Masters in Aboriginal Governance with several others in development. We’re also offering more co-op choices so students can gain practical experience in their field.”

In the past several years, UWinnipeg has also consolidated its programs into new and improved facilities downtown, including the new Buhler Centre at Portage and Colony, which will house the Faculty of Business and Economics and the Division of Continuing Education. The new state-of-the-art Science Complex and Richardson College for the Environment is also on track to open later in 2011, and will be one of Canada’s leading research facilities.
