WINNIPEG, MB – The Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology), announced a significant federal investment for developing research talent for UWinnipeg’s faculty and institutional researchers, and student scholarships totaling close to $1 million. Faculty and institutional research received $773,343 and student scholarships received $210,000.
“This funding is most welcome and reflects the exceptional talents of our faculty, researchers and graduate students,” said Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, UWinnipeg President & Vice-Chancellor. “UWinnipeg is renowned for its excellence in liberal arts, sciences, business and education teaching and research, and this support is recognition of that fact.”
“The University of Winnipeg is very please to receive this money from Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council which recognizes our academic excellence in research,” said, Dr. Neil Besner, UWinnipeg’s Vice-President (Research and International). “Research is integral for any institution to excel and benefits faculty and students. Contributing to a better understanding of the humanities (political, social, cultural and economic issues) is vital to help create a more just society.”
