In advance of the 2017 Canada Summer Games, The University of Winnipeg’s Department of Kinesiology and Applied Health will be hosting a panel on supporting success in young athletes through healthy development.

Taking place this Monday, June 26, the panel will feature experts from across the Canadian sports landscape discussing topics including injury prevention, recovery, and sport psychology.

“With the 2017 Canada Summer Games on the horizon, this a key time for parents, coaches, and health service providers to consider how they can foster the healthy development of young athletes preparing to compete in these and future competitions,” said Dr. Melanie Gregg, Acting Chair, Department of Kinesiology and Applied Health. “Anyone with a passion for sport is encouraged to join in the discussion, and help contribute to the future of Manitoba’s next generation of high performance athletes.”

Panelists will include:

  • Dr. Cameron Borody, Chiropractor, Sports Medicine Specialist Clinic; Primary Clinician, Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College; Chiropractic Consultant, National Ballet of Canada
  • Larry McKay, Head Coach, University of Winnipeg Wesmen Men’s Volleyball Program
  • Dr. Adrienne Leslie-Toogood, Director of Sport Psychology, Canadian Sport Centre Manitoba
  • Ben Trunzo, Athletic Therapist; UWinnipeg faculty

The event will be one of the first to be held in the new Leatherdale Hall — a $4.75-million addition to UWinnipeg’s Wesley Hall, which officially opened its doors this week. Admission is free, and no registration is required.
