UWinnipeg community members gathered October 21 for the launch of the Meeting the Moment: Strategic Plan 2025-2030.
Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members filled the Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex (RCFE) Atrium to celebrate this important milestone.
The event kicked off with a video of UWinnipeg community members sharing what meeting the moment means to them.
Dr. Todd Mondor, President and Vice-Chancellor, introduced the plan and its five pillars: fostering a thriving academic community of excellence; partnering for transformational research, scholarship, and creativity; supporting Reconciliation and Indigenous excellence; engaging with our community; and revitalizing our campus.
“Meeting the Moment speaks to the needs of our ever-changing world, and how the University of Winnipeg is uniquely positioned to respond,” said Dr. Mondor. “It reflects how we equip our diverse student population, support our faculty, and bolster our staff to collectively approach these challenges. Meeting the Moment is a joint project that we all carry in our work at UWinnipeg, and it is something that sets us apart.”
Speakers representing each of the plan’s five pillars shared how Meeting the Moment will shape UWinnipeg’s future. Dr. Sara Penner highlighted the University’s commitment to student success and faculty support; Dr. Jeff Martin shared how strategic research investments have led to world-class discoveries; and Christy Anderson emphasized the importance of creating space for Indigenous excellence at universities. UWSA President Alan Saji Koshy spoke about building stronger connections within and beyond campus, while Jeremy Read, CEO of the University of Winnipeg Community Renewal Corporation, reflected on revitalizing UWinnipeg’s downtown campus to foster inclusion, sustainability, and renewal.
Dr. Pavlina Radia, Provost and Vice-President Academic, concluded by celebrating the work that went into creating the plan and looking forward to the next phase of implementation. “Our shared goal is to ensure this plan lives not just in documents, but in the daily work and culture of our university,” she said.
Developed through 18 months of extensive consultation beginning in early 2024, with more than 1,300 voices contributing, Meeting the Moment reflects diverse perspectives and insights from throughout the UWinnipeg community. The plan provides a solid foundation to ensure the University is equipped to meet every challenge and opportunity in the years ahead.
