WINNIPEG, MB – 2011 has seen unprecedented growth and consolidation for The University of Winnipeg and there are more changes ahead for September. Over the summer, 57,000 ft2 of space on the main campus has been renovated to accommodate the following:

The Faculty of Education will move from the Rice Centre building into its permanent home in Graham Hall

Global College will move from the Rice Centre building to the 4th floor of Centennial Hall next to the Uplink Computer Lab
- The Department of Sociology is moving from Graham to Lockhart
-
Student Services – Academic Advising and Academic Scheduling will take over the former bookstore location on the main floor of Centennial Hall
-
Financial Awards and Aid will move to the offices across from the former bookstore location in Centennial Hall
-
Admissions, Records, Career Services and Counseling Services, Office of the Registrar will move from Graham Hall into new space on the main level of Ashdown Hall
-
Disability Services will move from the lower level of Graham Hall into accessible space on the main level of Ashdown Hall
In addition, new classroom space has been added to the main campus:

Manitoba Hall gets re-purposed with 4 Collegiate Labs (2 general science, one chemistry and one biology), 1 computer lab and 3 classrooms

Two new 90-seat classrooms have been created on the fourth level of Centennial Hall
-
A biology lab on the third level of Centennial Hall has been converted into two classrooms
-
Two of the former biology labs in Lockhart Hall have been transformed into three Physics research labs, while two others have been merged into a new 120-seat classroom

A decommissioned facility has been transformed into research space for Psychology
-
The main campus renovations are possible because of the new academic buildings that have increased the University’s facilities by 20%
-
Over the summer, the Departments of Chemistry, Biology, and Environmental Science relocated to the Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex
-
In addition, a number of entities are in the process of occupying the 3rd Floor Richardson College inside the Science Complex.

- In August, The University of Winnipeg Bookstore moved to a new home on the main level of the AnX, tripling in size
- In January, the Faculty of Business and Economics and the Division of Continuing Education moved into the new Buhler Centre
“Our campus is expanding and reconfiguring to better serve students with world-class facilities,” said Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, President and Vice-Chancellor. “This has also allowed us to exercise fiscal prudence by consolidating our operations and terminating external leases. We remain committed to ongoing campus improvements that also strengthen downtown and our inner-city neighbourhood.”
Renovations to the main campus buildings will continue next summer.
