UWinnipeg student Ahdieh Bimrew (BSc 25) has earned a McCall MacBain Regional Award. This scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity. It provides funding for a full-time master’s or professional program at any public university in Canada.
A Neuroscience student, Ahdieh is an active member of the Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Programme, animating activities for youth and tutoring other activity animators. He also volunteers as an ambassador at the Health Sciences Centre and co-created a garden care business. Ahdieh has worked part-time as a tutor.
Ahdieh ranked among the top 93 of approximately 700 Canadian applicants this year, and he will receive a $5,000 Regional Award for his next degree. He is applying for master’s programs in medical and health sciences.
“If you are willing to take a chance, I believe the McCall MacBain Scholarship process is an excellent opportunity to reflect on yourself and where you are in life, whether the end leads to an award or not,” said Ahdieh.
The McCall MacBain Scholarships are the result of a landmark $200 million gift in 2019, then the largest single donation in Canadian history, by John and Marcy McCall MacBain.
Applications will open in June 2025 for the 2026 cohort. More information about the McCall MacBain Scholarships can be found at mccallmacbainscholars.org.
