Theatre students at The University of Winnipeg are taking to the stage to perform a series of compelling solo performances inspired by life in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Re-Wire(d): An Evening of Solo Performances is conceived, developed, and performed by members of the fourth-year Honours Devised Theatre class and directed by Dr. Claire Borody, Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre and Film.

Performances run November 15-18 at the Asper Centre for Theatre and Film (400 Colony Street, Balmoral entrance).

“Each performer in Re-Wire(d) has created a solo performance unique to their experiences, interests and observations,” Dr. Borody said. “These pieces are visual, aural, and textual collages exploring a number of serious issues, often with a twist of humour.”

Themes include the thrill of speed in a fast car, the necessity of cultivating self-love and self-acceptance, the power of Indigenous spirituality, and the importance of nurturing and retaining childlike wonder and imagination.

The performances are arranged as two separate series of solo pieces running on alternate nights, each followed by a talk-back session.

Series One performances run Wednesday, November 15 and Friday, November 17 at 8 p.m. Series Two performances run Thursday, November 16 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m.

All performances are live. Masks are suggested but not required. Admission is free but reservations are recommended. Tickets can be reserved online or by calling the 24-hour reservation and information line at 204-786-9152.
