The University of Winnipeg will unveil its new strategic plan for 2025-2030, Meeting the Moment, at a special campus event on October 21. The plan lays a solid foundation ensure the University is equipped to meet every challenge and opportunity in the years ahead.

The launch event will bring together students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners to celebrate this important milestone. The event will be an opportunity to learn about the plan and how it will expand our impact going forward.

Developed through 18 months of extensive consultation beginning in early 2024, with more than 1,300 voices contributing, Meeting the Moment reflects diverse perspectives and insights from throughout the UWinnipeg community.

“This plan is rooted in the values, experiences, and aspirations of the people who make UWinnipeg what it is,” said Dr. Todd Mondor, President and Vice Chancellor. “Meeting the Moment is not just a document—it’s our shared commitment to building a forward-looking university positioned to provide exceptional education, research, and community impact for years to come.”

Meeting the Moment is built around five pillars: academic excellence, transformational research, Indigenous excellence, community engagement, and campus revitalization. Each pillar will be supported by an action-oriented and measurable tactical plan.

The plan’s five pillars build on momentum UWinnipeg is already gaining in key areas. The University recently launched its first-ever doctoral program, the PhD in Bioscience and Policy, which brings together research and public policy to tackle pressing challenges like climate change and human health. UWinnipeg’s researchers are advancing new frontiers in many evolving fields, such as projects funded by the Manitoba Medical Services Foundation that use artificial intelligence to better understand neurodegenerative disease.

A key part of the plan, Indigenous excellence, is deeply embedded in UWinnipeg’s identity and future. A recent $5 million gift from the Mastercard Foundation will expand educational opportunities for Indigenous students, while the addition of eight new Indigenous faculty members last year across multiple disciplines is strengthening representation and advancing Indigenous-led scholarship.

The plan also looks to continue and strengthen UWinnipeg’s community engagement, building on an existing area of strength. Our faculty give back to the community in a variety of ways, such as through participation in Soapbox Science at The Forks or by giving lectures in community spaces. Our many inspiring alumni—including the four who will be recognized at UWinnipeg’s upcoming Distinguished Alumni Awards Night—are strengthening communities through business, non-profits, education, technology, the arts, and many other fields crucial to the health of our province.

The launch of Meeting the Moment marks the beginning of a new chapter in UWinnipeg’s story, and everyone is invited to be a part of this celebration. Students, staff, faculty, alumni, and members of the wider community are all invited to join at 10 a.m. on October 21 in the Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex (RCFE) Atrium.
