UWinnipeg’s Michael Dudley Hits the Air Waves

WINNIPEG, MB – UWinnipeg’s Institute of Urban Studies Senior Research Associate and Library Coordinator Michael Dudley goes on air every Thursday from 12:00-1:00 pm, as the featured specialist in urban issues on the local radio station Streetz FM 104.7 on the Urban Nation show with Rick Harp.

Dudley will be discussing relevant and germane issues that pertain to urban issues and city living while utilizing the holdings of the Institute of Urban Studies library as a starting point.

“Hip Hop music has always been very political, very oriented to expressing the urban experience and addressing the power, racial and economic imbalances in our cities,” explains Dudley. “We’re pleased that Streetz FM – Canada’s groundbreaking Aboriginal Hip Hop station – has chosen to work with the Institute of Urban Studies, as these are the very issues that have been the focus of IUS since it started in 1969.”

With graduate degrees in both library science and city planning, Michael Dudley has been the Senior Research Associate and Library Coordinator with the Institute of Urban Studies since 2001. He teaches in the Environmental Studies program at the University of Winnipeg, is the Chair of the Editorial Board for Plan Canada Magazine (the official publication of the Canadian Institute of Planners), is a regular book reviewer for The Winnipeg Free Press, and blogs on urban planning issues for the Planetizen website at www.planetizen.com/blog/29STREETZ 104-7 is reaching out to all youth in Winnipeg and listeners of any age who love Hip Hop music and a younger, fresher urban sound. Their goal is to grab the ears of a large segment of the listening public that is being ignored and under-served in this market.
