Wesmen Release 2015 Regular Season Soccer Schedules

wesmen soccer-1The University of Winnipeg Wesmen is pleased to announce the release of the 2015 Canada West Conference Men’s and Women’s Soccer schedules for the upcoming season starting in September.

The women’s team will begin their season at home on Friday September 4th against the UBC Okanagan Heat at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex. Start time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.  Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 10 as the soccer portion of the Duckworth Challenge will take place against the cross-town rivals University of Manitoba Bisons (6:00 p.m. at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex).

Head coach Amy Anderson and her team will play 14 regular season matches (seven home, seven away)

This season marks a significant change to the women’s playoff format, with 12 teams earning spots in the postseason for the first time in conference history.

The women’s playoff schedule features a regional playoff weekend (Sat, Oct 31), with three teams from both the Pacific and Prairie regions advancing to the conference tournament – the Canada West Select Six (November 5-8). The highest advancing seed from each region receives a quarterfinal bye at the conference tournament, before playing a semi-final match-up against the other region’s quarterfinal winner. The CIS Women’s Soccer Championship will be hosted by UBC from November 12-15.

Head coach Pedro Daza and the men’s team will play their first four matches on the road, starting on Saturday September 12 against Mount Royal in Calgary. The team will play their home opener on Saturday, September 26th against the Saskatchewan Huskies at 12:00 p.m. The team will wrap up regular season play on home turf the weekend of October 24-25 against the Calgary Dinos.

The men’s team will play 12 regular season matches (six home, six away).

The Canada West Men’s Soccer Quarter-Finals will take place on October 31. The winners of the quarterfinals will advance to the Final Four taking place from November 7-8. The CIS Men’s Soccer Championship will be hosted by York University from November 12-15.
