For the third consecutive year the Wesmen Men’s Baseball team will get a chance to play with the pros. The Wesmen will take on the Winnipeg Goldeyes in their special annual contest this Sunday (May 4th) at Shaw Park. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown out at 1:30 p.m.
“Once again we look forward to the opportunity to play the Winnipeg Goldeyes in a fantastic setting like Shaw Park. The annual game gives our program an opportunity to take in the whole minor league experience. We look forward to a continued relationship with the Winnipeg Goldeyes as we enter the NAIA next season”, said Wesmen Men’s Baseball head coach Mike Krykewich.
Winnipeg is currently playing their final games of the 2014 season against NAIA, NCAA Division 2 opponents. The Wesmen, as previously announced, will begin play in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) next season.
“The Winnipeg Goldeyes are proud to be partners with the University of Winnipeg and the Wesmen Baseball Program. Shaw Park has been the home of the Wesmen since 2012 and very happy for the program to now be a part of the NAIA. The annual exhibition game between the Goldeyes and the Wesmen is a game we look forward to each year. It’s a great opportunity for the players in the program to get a taste of what professional baseball is like and it provides the Goldeyes players a good warmup heading into the season”, added Winnipeg Goldeyes general manager Andrew Collier.
General admission tickets are $5.00 and are available at the Winnipeg Goldeyes Ticket Office located at Shaw Park.
