On Wednesday, November 19, Professor John Borrows will present a public lecture entitled, Why Are We Here: the Metaphysics of Indian Treaties. Borrows is well known as one of the foremost Aboriginal scholars on law and politics in Canada today. This presentation is brought to you by the departments of Aboriginal Self Governance and Politics.

John Borrows BA, MA, LLB, LLM (Toronto), D.Jur. (Osgoode Hall) is Professor and Law Foundation Chair of Aboriginal Law and Justice at the University of Victoria Law School in British Columbia. He teaches in the areas of Constitutional Law, Aboriginal Law, Natural Resources Law and the Environment, and Land Use Planning. His recent book, Recovering Canada; The Resurgence of Indigenous Law, won the 2003 Donald Smiley Award for the best book in Canadian Political Science. Professor Borrows also received an Aboriginal Achievement Award in Law and Justice in 2003. He is Anishinabe/Ojibway and a member of the Chippewa of the Nawash First Nation in Ontario.
