UWinnipeg’s Department of Political Science presents Why the 2019 Federal Election Matters, a panel discussion on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 12:30 pm in Room 1L13. This panel features three experts in the field of Canadian politics.
Each speaker will highlight the issues they think are most important in the 2019 Federal Election. Panel members include UWinnipeg’s Dr. Joan Grace, Chair, political science, Mary Agnes Welch, Principal, Probe Research Inc., and Dr. Christopher Adams, Rector, St. Paul’s College, UManitoba.
Adams holds a PhD from Carleton University and worked for twenty years in the public opinion research industry. Last year, he was the co-director of the The Marketing Research and Intelligence Association (MRIA) inquiry into polling problems in the 2017 Calgary Municipal Election. He is the author of numerous journal articles and Politics in Manitoba (UManitoba Press), and is a frequent media commentator on polling and elections.
For the past few years, Welch has provided research and strategic advice to a range of private, public and not-for-profit clients. Before that, Welch spent 14 years as an award-winning reporter for Winnipeg Free Press, covering city hall, the Manitoba legislature and the public policy beat.
For the past 20 years, Grace has taught undergraduate and graduate courses focusing in the areas of Canadian politics, social movements and interest groups, public policy and comparative federalism.
