About 100 students gathered on the UWinnipeg campus today to take part in the the nationwide “vote mob” movement designed to encourage young people to exercise their right to vote and to inform politicians that youth are engaged and empowered.
Canada has experienced a recent wave of student political activity with campus “vote mobs” taking place across the country in response to CBC comedian Rick Mercer’s rant on low youth voter turnout.
Historically, youth voting has been very low in Canada. Students were filming the Winnipeg vote mob for a YouTube video for the website www.leadnow.ca.
