World Student Day celebrated at Legislative Grounds

On the heels of World Cup fever it’s soccer time. UWinnipeg’s English Language Program has joined forces with Languages Canada and  Heartland Language School for the Winnipeg soccer event of the summer with volleyball bonus games played today at the Manitoba Legislative Grounds from 1 – 3pm.

These  friendly games are in honour of today’s inaugural World Student Day that is being celebrated across the country with activities also in Halifax, Charlottetown, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver. Each city created its own original events with the common goal of raising the awareness of international students and the cultural and economic benefits they bring to their respective destination.

Students come from around the world with the top five source countries being Japan, Brazil, China, South Korea and Saudi Arabia.

UWinnipeg’s English Language Program (ELP) delivers high quality programming to international and domestic students seeking to enhance their English proficiency. ELP offers a certificate program for those seeking to teach English as an additional language to adults, as well as customized programming and private tutorials — including communication coaching and workplace communication skills enhancement for internationally-educated professionals. For more information visit ELP.

Languages Canada is the not-for-profit association that represents more than 210 language education member programs across Canada, which offer accredited English and French education in both the public and private sectors.
