A seven person ensemble of fourth-year theatre students explore the complexity of life’s journey in the original production, You are (t)here.
“These performances highlight how life is made up of a series of moments that define each individual’s existence. Some are unique to that individual and some are shared by all human beings at some point in their lives,” said Dr. Claire Borody, production director, and associate professor, Department of Theatre and Film.
She goes on to explain how the time, place, and circumstances into which we are born serve as a point of origin, but belief systems and decision making can and do alter life’s course.
“There are those who are content following the main road, others who head off the beaten path, and those who forge paths of their own,” said Borody. “It’s often amidst moments of struggle and difficulty that the essence of a life is most clearly defined.”
You are (t)here incorporates physical images, vocal soundscapes, live music, props, and additional text to explore the ways human beings experience and interpret life events, and how the process of attempting to understand one’s unique place in the world affects the continuing journey.
Original performance material was conceived and developed by Borody’s THFM-4133 (Devised Theatre) class after formal research on various aspects of life experience. Sources of inspiration include dance, literature, film, music, visual and plastic arts, as well as popular culture, and journalism.
Performances take place Wednesday, March 19 to Friday, March 20, at 8:00 pm, and Saturday, March 21, at 7:00 pm. All performances are held at The University of Winnipeg’s Asper Centre for Theatre and Film, 400 Colony Street.
